The Loch Ness Monster

Nessie is one of the most famous cryptids in history with sightings dating back to the 7th century A.D. I really enjoyed this one, as it pushed me to be more conscious of shadows and lighting underwater, and I had to make several attempts before settling on a pose. I painstakingly drew each individual scale, keeping shadows in mind before smudging and blending them together to create a sort of mottled underwater lighting effect, which I think has worked quite well. I also think the twist in the dorsal spines and membrane behind the head give it a more 3d effect which helps bring the piece to life.

I certainly believe that there’s more going on in this world than we know or understand. And even if we did, magick doesn’t cease to be real. In the words of the late great Terry Pratchet, “just because you understand how something works doesn’t mean it isn’t magic” I for one am glad there’s still some mystery on the world

Yes! Love the mystery. Although I struggle with Terry Pratchet. Great quote though. Cheers

His irreverent take on fantasy isn’t for every one, but I especially love his take on death as a sympathetic friend who loves humans and guides us to our final rest
